On The Road Problems - August 2004

Driving Daisy to a friends house a few miles away, I started to hear (and feel) a CLUNK.... CLUNK.. noise. Seemed to only happen when going over bumps, or turning sharply. I could tell that it was coming from the back. So, the minute I got home, got out the jack and the axle stands to have a look. The problem was clear...

The rear shock absorber connection was loose. It looks like the rubber bush has died, and the pin is loose. This is causing the shock to rattle and bang, and is gradually pushing out the center pin. Good job I noticed! - I need to get FoMoCo number E7-ED-1. I might as well get 2 of them and replace both sides. This means however, that until I get the new bushes, Daisy has to be off the road :-(

Although, this does mean that I can get on with the interior.

----------------------------------- update -----------------------------------

Ok..... now that my arms hurt like hell.... I have replaced the worn bushes on the back shocks. I did both sides even though only one side was badly worn. Daisys road handling and ride has been greatly enhanced since the new bushes.

I also got the suspension fixing plate for both sides....

..but, now that I have taken Daisys existing ones off, they are not all that bad, infact, after a wee while with a wire brush, they came up great. So, now I have a pair of 'new' brachets. I shall probably sell these.
