November 2003

There are a lot of photos this month, so give your browser some time!!...

Well, last month seemed to fly by !! I have good news, and bad news. The good news is ; The parts that I needed to be fabricated are completed. I was not able to find anywhere that could supply me the ford spare. Time to introduce Brian. Brian is the man who has come to be Daisy's true savior. Brian is " The Welder Man". Not just a welder man of course, as he has the skills (and patience) to fabricate the parts I need, that I can not buy off the self.

Everything with an arrow, had to be fabricated. You saw last month, the start of this transformation. I had hoped that it would all be in place by this month. But not yet. Any way, here is a sneak preview ....

So, this shows the same as the b&w picture, but this is the real daisy, rather than a blue print. Most is in place. All that remains is ...

The final cover. Almost like new.

Now the bad news ; I thought I had all the spares required for the suspension rebuild. Alas, no.

This hole is where the suspension thrust bearing should be. Not only did we have to break (split it - see arrow) it to get it out, when it was removed it looked like this...

To say it was rusty, was an understatement. There is no way that this bearing would survive the new wing assembly. Finding a new one, was not an easy task. And, seeing as this one had to be split to be removed, it would be a good bet that the other side would be the same, so I needed 2 of them. BUGGER. I was almost ready to give up looking, when Brian came to the rescue.

Brand spanking new.

A bit of a difference ehh??!!

Another wee problem, was the VIN plate. The surrounding metal had corroded badly, so this was cut out, and a new section welded in. The plate was saved, intact, and will be refitted in the original position.

Also, the top of the suspension strut is bad. Not sure what to do about this yet, I only just noticed it when tripping over it!

Something that Brian found, although the sills are ok, a bad repair job about 10years ago is starting to show is ugly head. Bad repair with bad welding, together with fibre glass bodge has created a time bomb. I will look in to this further next month.

So there you have it !! - I told you that a lot would happen this month.........

So, until December...... Ta the noo...
