Damn it !! - If I didn't know any better, I would say that Daisy is trying at all costs to stop me putting her on the road!!!! The mere mention of the word MOT and she hides and decides to break something else. So........ where are we.... well, the new break pipes that we put in earlier...

Needed to be bled... again. Ended up re-doing a large section of the piping using this nice little tool of Brian's...

This lets us make the correct fitting end for brakes... making them up takes minutes.

The entire underneath has been rubbed down, and completely sealed and proofed.

She was getting there............... she started....... ticked over........... and revved.

I know that I need to touch up the paint work, due to some of the welding needed, but hey.... that's not needed for an MOT. So, there it was...... that word again....... MOT. Just then, daisy decided to slow down and stop. It looked like the battery was flat. Running a multimeter across the battery, confirmed this. Strange, as its a new battery. So, thought that I would test the dynamo as well, just to see of she was charging. Nope.......... found out how to test the dynamo from the workshop manual. Nothing.... no even a flicker. <sigh>.

Taking the dynamo housing off...... and I saw the damage. The moment daisy tried to take a charge, it looks like the dynamo overheated, and melted the solder.

Which then splattered everywhere....... even on the housing. The dynamo is buggered.

This is technical print..... showing the damaged areas. I am not an electrician, and my knowledge of dynamos is almost non existent. Brian too, is not too hot on this area, so Brian called in the help of a colleague who does know. He confirmed the death of the dynamo, and pronounced it dead. But, what he did say was, that the voltage regulator is normally to blame for such problems with dynamos. The regulator...

(this is a picture of a new one and not daisy's) should shutdown and open the 'charge' aspect of the dynamo as and when needed, however, if the regulator is faulty, then the dynamo can overheat, which is what we think has happened to Daisy. Ho humm.

Anyway, the good news is, that I have ordered a refurb dynamo
| 105E-10001-B | www.smallfordspares.co.uk | £45.00 |
Also, its looks like I can get a second hand voltage regulator for £25
| regulator & cut-out type RB106 | scrap yard / fellow restorer | £25.00 'ish |
Now............. NOBODY SAY MOT !!! At least until I get the dynamo and the regulator !!!
